Airport Transit Visa

Nationalities and exemptions that need/don't need Airport Transit Visa: List I / List II / List III

The "Airport Transit Visa" enables transit through the International Transit Area of one or more airports located in the territory of the Member States of the Schengen Agreement, to make a connection to another international flight, without leaving the International Transit Area. It does not permit entry in the territory of the Schengen area. When a flight connection involves passing through border control, for example, to connect to a domestic flight within the Schengen area or to stay in a hotel in the city, it will be necessary to apply for a Schengen tourist visa.

The holder may transit once, twice or multiple times through the international transit area of the airport. Applications for airport transit visas must be submitted to the Schengen member state in which the first airport transit takes place. Spain will only process transit visas if a Spanish airport is the first connection point.

The maximum validity period of an airport transit visa cannot exceed 6 months.

The airport transit visa application must be submitted in person no more than 180 days before your trip and at least 15 days before your trip. Applications will not be accepted more than 180 days in advance of your trip. Crew members can apply 9 months in advance.
